Scott Herring will put the needs of District five FIRST
As a member of the Lex Rich 5/School Board of Trustees, I will focus on current issues while looking ahead and moving forward towards restoring excellence
My top priorities/goals are:
RECRUIT and RETAIN
Teachers deserve to be treated with the utmost respect and as professionals. This will be a top focal point for me as a board member.
Ensure teachers receive Fair and competitive pay. Offer paid family leave for teachers. Reduce class sizes. Examine paperwork and testing expectations.
SCHOOL SAFETY
Students, family members, teachers and staff should feel safe in our schools every day.
Provide funding for full SRO staffing at every school. Partner with SROs to develop and implement strategies for safety. Foster community through relationship building. Follow through with district wide discipline expectations at every school.
EXAMINE EQUITY
Resources for schools should be allocated equitably and fairly so each cluster and each school have equal opportunities to shine.
Attend to and fund repairs across clusters in timely manner. Offer robust and diverse learning opportunities district wide. Encourage academic rigor alongside career path development.
SUPPORT SERVICES
In a post COVID world the spotlight on mental health shines brighter than ever for children and adults.
Make counseling widely available to every student or staff member. Hire more counselors and school psychiatrists to lower the student to staff ratio. Increase the number of Lexington County mental health staff available at each school.
