A Goldsboro, N.C. native, SCOTT HERRING moved to District Five more than 20 years ago to join the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Music.
An acclaimed musician, SCOTT HERRING has performed in 28 U.S. states, France, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Argentina, and China, and is featured on commercial recordings. A performer and percussion clinician, Scott has visited many S.C. high schools and middle schools presenting free educational clinics to percussion students over the past 10 years.
Along with his teaching and performance credentials, SCOTT HERRING has also devoted himself to public service. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Magnolia Point Homeowners Association for 9 years, serving as president for three years.
SCOTT HERRING has also served on the UofSC's Faculty Senate (two terms), the School of Music Executive Committee, and the School of Music Graduate committee. In May of 2021, Scott was honored with the Cantey Outstanding Faculty award, voted on by his peers in the School of Music
With an undergraduate degree in music education, SCOTT HERRING is well-versed in public education. His wife, Sunny, a respected literacy specialist, has taught for 26 years in the Lexington Two, Lexington-Richland Five, and Richland One school districts. His children, Sam (age 16) and Ella (7) have attended public schools in Lexington-Richland 5 their entire lives.
SCOTT HERRING is running for the school board to ensure Lexington-Richland District 5 is student- and teacher-centered. He regularly makes data-driven curricular, health, and safety decisions, and he will work as a member of the District Five school board to make sure these values are at the core of the decision-making process while also valuing the input of parents and the community at large.
In his spare time, SCOTT HERRING enjoys playing golf, cycling, and spending time with his family.
